Project Nowlan Park

UPMC Nowlan Park underwent significant enhancements for Kilkenny GAA, including the construction of a new Spectator Stand named Ardan O’Cearbhaill and the revitalization of Ardan Breathnach, involving a new roof and media/press area. Additionally, the County Board offices underwent refurbishment and extension, and a new disabled spectator seating area was introduced.

Ardan O’Cearbhaill saw the creation of a new 4,000 all-seated covered stand. This comprehensive structure included dressing rooms, an indoor warm-up match practice area, administration rooms, toilet facilities, spectator entry turnstiles, and associated site works. The project involved demolishing and removing the existing spectator terrace and rerouting live services before commencing foundation excavations. The stand's main body featured cast in-situ reinforced concrete walls, deck, and steps, with a cantilevered structural steel roof adorned with Kingspan roof cladding and fibre cement rainscreen on the rear and sides. Internal finishes included non-slip resin flooring, cushioned sports floor tiles, Astro-turf in the warm-up area, hardwood seating and benches, along with ice baths and shower areas.
Demolition
Ardan Breathneach underwent a transformation with the demolition of the existing storm-damaged roof structure. In its place, a new structural steel roof structure was installed.

The County Board Offices underwent a dual-phase process, involving a full renovation of the existing offices and the construction of a new extension with a media viewing area.

The entire structure received a new roof, and a new disabled spectator viewing area was strategically placed at pitch-side.

Situated at a bustling traffic junction in Kilkenny City and bordered by residential developments on two sides, the stadium remained fully operational for all games and training throughout the project.
