Ormonde Construction delivered a significant programme of redevelopment works at UPMC Nowlan Park for Kilkenny GAA, enhancing spectator, player, media and administrative facilities at one of Ireland’s best-known GAA grounds.
A key element of the project was the construction of the new 4,000-seat covered Ardan O’Cearbhaill spectator stand. The development incorporated dressing rooms, an indoor warm-up and practice area, administration rooms, spectator facilities and turnstiles. The structure comprised reinforced concrete walls, deck and terracing together with a cantilevered structural steel roof.
The works also included the replacement of the storm-damaged roof to Ardan Breathnach, creation of new media and press facilities, refurbishment and extension of the County Board offices and provision of a new accessible spectator viewing area.
Located at a busy junction in Kilkenny City and surrounded by residential areas, careful planning and coordination were essential. Nowlan Park remained fully operational for matches and training throughout the construction works, requiring close management of access, safety and programme.
The project demonstrates Ormonde Construction’s expertise in delivering complex sporting facilities within a live and highly active environment.
