The Church of Oak Distillery project involved the restoration and redevelopment of the historic Ballykelly Mills, located on the banks of the Grand Canal near Monasterevin, Co. Kildare.
Dating back to the early 1800s, the project transformed this important heritage site into a modern Irish whiskey distillery while carefully retaining its unique architectural character.
Ormonde Construction carried out extensive enabling and construction works, including asbestos removal, demolition, structural alterations, temporary propping, drainage, services and significant site development works. Particular care was taken to protect and preserve original features including the mill race aqueduct, malting house, stores and furnaces.
The project also included an extension to the original building, incorporating high-quality architectural fair-faced concrete to create a contemporary addition that complements the historic structure.
The completed development successfully brings together heritage conservation and modern construction, providing a high-quality production facility while preserving the character and history of Ballykelly Mills for future generations.
