Ormonde Construction delivered a major programme of extension, refurbishment and conservation works at St. Brigid’s College in Callan, Co. Kilkenny, significantly enhancing the school’s teaching and learning facilities. The project included the demolition of the existing general-purpose hall and redundant ancillary buildings, followed by the construction of a new three-storey classroom extension and two-storey infill extension.
The new accommodation provides a range of specialist teaching facilities, including science laboratories, art rooms, a library, maths room and business and commerce room. Works also extended to the existing Scoil Mhuire building, providing a new entrance area, classrooms, staff room and office facilities. A new General Purpose Area was created at the interface between Scoil Mhuire and the main school building, while retained classrooms underwent comprehensive refurbishment. An important element of the project was the careful restoration of the existing protected structure, integrating upgraded and new facilities while respecting the character of the original buildings.
The project was delivered over three distinct phases within a live school environment, requiring careful management of access, safety, deliveries and construction activities to minimise disruption to students and staff throughout the works.
