Ormonde Construction delivered a 50,000 sq. ft. warehouse extension for Bergin Haulage at Purcellsinch Business Park, Kilkenny, expanding the company’s existing logistics and warehousing facilities. Constructed on a challenging brownfield site, the project required significant enabling and civil engineering works before construction could commence. Existing mains sewer and gas services serving the wider business park were diverted outside the new building footprint, requiring careful planning and coordination. The new warehouse was constructed using a steel portal frame, providing approximately 11 metres of clear internal height.
The steeply sloping site presented a further significant challenge, requiring the construction of reinforced concrete retaining walls reaching approximately 8 metres in height, together with extensive engineered fill to achieve the required levels and load-bearing capacity. Internally, the warehouse incorporated high-performance super-flat concrete floors, while the external works included loading bays, dock levellers, parking and service areas.
A stormwater attenuation system was also incorporated as part of the development. The completed project demonstrates Ormonde Construction’s experience in combining complex civil engineering works with the delivery of large-scale industrial and logistics facilities.
